Are you thinking to buy a inverter for your home? Are you in a confusion to select normal or solar inverter?
Choosing a right inverter plays an important role. So, here we are providing some information regarding how to choose right inverter for your house.
First Select Solar inverter or Normal inverter:
If you have roof top place and you do not have cost constrain then go for Solar Inverer. Otherwise go for normal inverter.
Estimate your power requirement:
It is very important to estimate power requirement of your house and how many hours you want to run the appliances.
Power estimation is basically power consumed by your house appliances.
Here the below table shows typical power rating of home appliances.
Equipment | Typical Power rating |
Fan | 70 watt |
Table Fan | 120 watt |
TV | 40 inch LED 70 watt
40 inch LCD 100 watt |
Tube light | 50 watt |
Small CFL bulb | 30 watt |
Desktop PC with LCD monitor | 350 watt |
Internet modem | 10 watt |
Suppose If you want to operate 3 fans, 1 TV, 2 tube lights, 1 Desktop PC and internet modem, so total load of the system is
3*70 + 1*100 + 2*50 + 1*350 + 1*10 = 770 watts.
But mostly all house hold appliances are inductive loads so that we need to consider power factor of the loads. Typical power factor of the appliances is 0.7.
How to Select Inverter
VA rating = Watt/Power Factor = 770/0.7 = 1100 VA = 1.1 KVA
So 1.1 KVA rated inverter will fit to your home.
There are mainly two inverter models in the market like Pure Sin Wave Inverter and Square Wave Inverter. Those are representing output voltage waveform shape.
If you choose square wave inverter, your appliances like tube light and fans can make hissing noise. This is mainly because of those devises are designed for pure sin wave.
Even all electronics like TV will effect with square wave inverter, because it has internal transformer to step down voltage and then it will convert to DC. Transformer will may make hissing noise with square wave inverter.
So it is recommended to choose “Pure Sin Wave Inverter”.
How to choose Battery:
Choosing a right battery is very important. Inverter performance entirely depends on it. Battery size depends on the how many hours it can run without drain.
Normally battery rating expressed in Ah (ampere hour).
Let us consider you want power backup for 3 hours.
Battery Capacity = Power Requirement * Backup Hours / Battery Volts
A regular battery in market comes with 12V.
Battery Capacity = 1100 * 3 / 12 = 275 Ah
But all inverters comes with 80% efficiency only i.e to deliver 1.1 KVA it required 20% more input power. So if you select exactly 275 Ah, you will not get 1.1 KVA output.
So final rating of your battery = 275 + 275*0.2 = 330 Ah
So finally you need 1.1 KVA inverter with 330 Ah.
There are mainly three types of batteries available in market, those are Maintenance free batteries, Tubular batteries, Flat Plate batteries.
Maintenance Free | Tubular | Flat Plate | |
Cost | Low | High | High |
Maintenance | No | Medium cost | High cost |
Life | 3 Yrs | 4-5 Yrs | 4-5 Yrs |
So finally select a suitable battery as per your need.
Conclusion
We hope the above information helps you choosing the right inverter and battery. Please leave a comment if you have any suggestions doubts.
